DISCOVER BOOROWA
Our village of Boorowa in the Hilltops Region, NSW is a wonderful place to visit. The undulating countryside is beautiful in all seasons and our town is simply quite lovely.
It is an easy drive from Canberra through Murrumbateman and Yass, or from Sydney and the Southern Highlands, and is a crucial connecting point on the road from Orange to Canberra via Canowindra and Cowra. The inland route from Goulburn through Crookwell and Rugby is also well worth a go.
The town's name means 'turkey' - yes, not a superb parrot in this instance! - and is derived from Wiradjuri, the language of the First Nations custodians of this country. Nearby, in Young, there is also an Aboriginal Land Council office.
A walk through the town will reveal numerous older buildings reflecting the predominantly farming nature of our region, as well as the rich Irish settler heritage. The town cemetery provides both a wonderful view over the rolling plains and a window into the early European settlement of the area, with the names of numerous Irish towns and counties appearing on the headstones. Stories and artefacts about the history of Boorowa and surroundings are also on display in the small museum in the heart of town.
Our main street, Marsden Street, has various restaurants, cafés and stores, including a bakery and a post office/ newsagent. There are 3 pubs in town, as well as the Sports Club and the Ex-Services and Citizens Club, and the parks and amenities are kept well-serviced, with toilets and barbecue facilities. Our beautiful pool is open from November to March and well worth a visit too. During the winter months, home games for the league and union teams bring the town together at the football field next to the Showground.
There are numerous excellent accommodation possibilities, from simple rooms in the hotels, to a small motel and a caravan park. We are also happy to say that our town is very lucky to have a brand new motel - The Ned Ryan. See their website and booking platfrom here:
There are also a number of residences available as AirBnBs and we thought it'd be helpful to provide their links here.
